In pursuing education reform, which is the better path:non-profit or profit? What are the benefits of each?

I am an educator and have children of my own... the state of the educating system is repulsive in my opinion. I want to do more than continue on the hamster wheel of teaching in the public school system for 25+ years... I am eager to explore options of offering programs to impoverished families and give as many children possible an opportunity to a better future.
