As a tenant do I have to pay for the call out fee of an electrician?
A couple of months ago there was a burning smell in my unit that came and went a few times, I actually really panicked when I first smelt it as I could only smell it within the house, so I put in a repair form with the real estate agents telling them about it. Anyway, they sent an electrician over who stood around and said because it wasn't a continuous smell it probably means the house won't burn down, basically did bugger all. Now the real estate has sent me a bill for the call out fee saying there was no fault - am I liable to pay this? I mean the electrician didn't even look at anything so how would he know if there was a fault, and I don't even think I requested an electrician on the repair form, I just wanted someone to check things out (I am a single woman with no friends or family in town) as I was really concerned. I'm also pretty sure that it was my responsibility to let the real estate agents know about it anyway. Any advice much appreciated!!!
