Would I get in trouble for doing this?

You will need to check with your building dept. You will need electrical, water, sewer (or if You are on septic) lines closed down safely; you will need debris disposal, and in some locales, yes, you need a demolition permit. You may also have to improve grading, run off etc before you can Re-build. And you will certainly need permits before you can re-build.
